The Company Store is all about bedding and is available online. Pottery Barn and Bed, Bath & Beyond do as well. Macy's also has a large department of bedding and linens and run sales often. Target has some great shabby chic looks that might work.
References :
I don't think it will be worth it. You will have to cut the seams off the sides of each comforter. Then you will have to stitch the two together without a raw seam, which will unravel. You will then have a flat part at the seam ie it's gonna look like two duvets stitched together, because there is no way to sew it from the inside, if you follow me.
However, if you want to do it: you need to make a flat felled seam to enclose the raw edges. Cut the edges off the two duvets. You may need to trim away the fibrefill to give you room to sew. (if it's feathers, don't even think about doing this!!) Put the wrong sides together and sew a 5/8 inch seam. Press the seam flat and then open it and press it to one side. Trim only the bottom side down to 1/8 inch. Fold the long side in by 1/4 inch, enclosing the bottom seam and press down the fold. Pin it carefully (this is a visible seam) and stitch it down. This looks good when done well, and like crap if not....so, think it's worth the trouble??
References :
Sounds like it will work, I would make sure that the comforter will not be bigger in size than the duvet. I think this is a great idea for using the resources you have.
References :
How about using bed sheets. That would be an inexpensive way to go. And then just use tacks to hold it on. Hope this helps.
